Word-of-Mouth is about “Passion” not Facts

Seahawks Champion endzoneHave you ever had someone come up to you that is so excited about something and start to spew a bunch of facts about what it is they like?

“Hey, I just got back from the football game and let me tell you, the stadium was well marked, I could find the beer card easily, the ticket worked well and got me in, the seat was about the right size to be comfortable, and the game didn’t go over 3 hours. I can’t wait to go again…”

Don’t think this happens unless it is someone who has no clue what football is really all about. Nope…that is not how they describe their experience.

“Hey, I just got back from the football game and it was incredible. I can’t remember cheering so hard and having so much fun getting into the excitement of the crowd and the stadium. Our seats were so close you felt like you were on the field and could talk to the players. I can’t wait to go again…”

That is what passion looks like and that is what gets shared and spread.

Think about your own business…and don’t tell me you have a plain, ordinary, boring business. Unless you are just a pure commodity product that gets bought and sold based on price you have the opportunity to create passion in your business. And because of this passion, people will talk about it.

Without this passion, no one talks about it…at least not much and not in a way that someone can’t wait to experience your company. Now ask yourself, “Are my employees and customers passionate about our company to the point where they can’t wait to tell someone else about us?” If not…you have work to do.

The world today is all about word-of-mouth…whether in person or on social channels. Social media is becoming ubiquitous and so easy to use that it is defaulting to the “tool of choice” for word-of-mouth. It’s easy to share, easy to post, easy to use.

So ask yourself if you have set up your company to be “experiential” enough to create passion with the audience that matters to you. If not, you’re missing out on the most powerful (and least expensive) sales and marketing opportunity that has ever existed. Stop thinking about the “mechanics” and the “facts” and start thinking about the “experience” that gets people talking…a lot…and on social channels. This has the potential to change your brand, your business, and your success…forever.
