Said NO. ONE. EVER.
No audience has ever asked for this…yet it’s what we keep giving them.
Why?
It can’t be that we are that clueless to think they really want it…
It can’t be that we just don’t know what else to do…
It can’t be that it’s just what we have always done so we need to keep doing it…
It can’t be that we think getting a .01% return is OK…
It can’t be because we don’t understand our audience well enough to give them something that would be helpful…
Or can it!!!
Somehow push marketing is the default pattern for most. Nobody likes to receive it, it’s not appropriate, timing is never right, and every stat shows it doesn’t work. So it’s a good question that demands an answer.
Maybe we could get folks interested in what we have to say by paying it forward.. Give them something to think about without any expectation of gain or any sort of quid pro quo.. Educate them. Maybe they would find it of interest and opt-in by choice. I wonder if that approach would work?
