You have to “Get Small” if you want to “Get Big”

Once again I was on the Chat with Women radio show on KKNW talking about Social Media and offering up another “tip of the day” to help people better understand how to use Social Media.

Today’s Podcast is about “Getting Small” if you want to “Get Big”.  What does that really mean? It is simply using a catchy phrase to say that the audience is so well connected today and can find virtually anything they want on the internet you have to be very very specific if you want to capture their interest. I have a Border Collie. If I go to PETCO.com and start to look for border collies I have to sort through fish and cats and gerbils and birds, and even dogs just to find out if they are even talking about border collies.  That is a waste of time in our “information rich” world today.  Instead, I will do a search on border collie blogs and find numerous sites dedicated exclusively to border collies.  That is where I want to hang out…

So this tells us that if you are not very specific with your audience and provide content that is narrow and well defined for their particular interest, they will leave.  One size definitely doesn’t fit all in today’s world and the more detailed and specific you can get with your niche, the more they will be “pulled” into your world and want to “engage” with you there.  That is how “getting small” is absolutely, positively the way you can “get big” because you are serving a very specific and interested niche.  Listen as we talk about how this works in more detail…
